Beau
In 1973, at the age of 26, Beau Theriot opened his first restaurant -- The Brownstone Restaurant in Houston, Texas, displaying furniture and antiques from around the world. The Brownstone became one of Houston's most sophisticated restaurants, and patrons were soon asking Beau to decorate their houses. Beau's innate sense of design, along with his knowledge of antiques, led him into a new profession and the opening of the Brownstone Gallery.
In 1979 Beau bought a week-end home on Lake Travis and decided that the hill top just across the lake was the perfect place to open a restaurant.
Elegant Growth
Since 1982, Beau has been busy developing the surrounding 500 acres. His home, just down the street from the Oasis, is the result of a sketch he drew on the back of a cocktail napkin. Across the street from the restaurant, The Treasury is Beau’s premiere furniture gallery and primary office. If you sit on the decks at the Oasis and look toward the north shore, you can see Villa Montaña - a developing gated community - every detail of which is overseen by Beau himself. There are condos in the planning stages for the hilltop to the west of Oasis Bluff, and a new 30-home development, Mirasol, underway next to The Treasury. Over two-thirds of the original 500 acres has been designated as a nature preserve to ensure that the rolling hillside, that draws so many to Austin and the Lake Travis area, will stay green for years to come.
The Fire
In July of 2005, lightning struck The Oasis and the resulting fire claimed 80% of the decks. Never one to be held down by circumstance, Beau re-opened within three days of the fire, moving customers to the remaining decks and salvaging as many employees’ jobs as possible. Plans to rebuild started immediately, and the result is bigger and better than ever before: three stories, more deck space, an innovative convertible indoor/outdoor live music venue. With seating capacity for over 2,000 people, and more indoor space than ever, the new Oasis is now a year-round, all-weather, top-destination restaurant.
Oasis, Texas
With the surrounding areas - Lakeway, Cedar Park, and Steiner Ranch, to name a few - growing faster than ever, the Oasis was bound to become the center of action. Once relegated to a day trip to the hills outside of Austin, the Oasis is soon to become a central destination with the addition of a new retail village: Oasis, Texas. More than a standard strip mall, “Oasis, Texas” aims to recreate a European village market with meandering paths, beautiful architecture, and lots of places to stop and enjoy the scenery.
With many recognized Austin retailers soon to be represented in a new, Northwest location, the Oasis will soon offer a multitude of attractions, from shopping and entertainment to alternative dining accommodations (for those nights when one must compliment barbecue, or sushi, or pasta, with a beautiful lake backdrop).
As much as the Oasis has grown in the past 25 years, it’s only getting started. Houses, condos, great food, live music, unique shopping and fun entertainment – exciting things are happening for “The Sunset Capital of Texas!”
The sunset at The OASIS is a major event complete with bell ringing and applause. The OASIS also provides a spectacular view of Lake Travis and the surrounding hill country. It is a must-see for out-of-towners and a reprieve for locals -- the perfect place for groups of up to 500 for parties, weddings, corporate events and any other special occasion you want to celebrate. The restaurant's Starlight nightspot provides a great weekend venue for live music and entertainment.
Beau used his creative talents to design and sketch out plans for his own home, which is, not surprisingly, furnished with fine art and antiques from around the world. You can see his breathtakingly beautiful home on the side of the cliff across the lake from the decks of The OASIS.
